Tom McGraw began his career in 1973 in Syracuse, New York, as a premium auditor with Royal Globe Insurance. Moving to Crum & Forster in 1977, he then held positions in underwriting and marketing, finishing off his carrier years as the Regional Vice-President for C&F’s Northeast Region.

In 2000 he began a second, though related, career as a business consultant to independent agencies. The first years were with INEX Capital & Growth Advisors, and in 2008 he started his own firm. Two years later, after having had the good fortune of meeting Brian Burke, he entered into a strategic partnership with B. H. Burke & Co., Inc.

He is respected as a skilled adviser — in handling insurance-agency mergers and acquisitions and in assisting local and regional agencies in growing and prospering through leadership development, fair owner/producer-compensation arrangements, effective perpetuation strategies, and regularly scheduled general agency planning.

Tom’s unique ability is best exhibited when he helps owners conceive and execute agency perpetuation. And he is especially adept at “legacy" perpetuation. These deals present usually complex, and often awkward, challenges, and Tom has an outstanding track record in helping agency principals and family buyers deal successfully with them. Through Tom’s varied and multi-layered career, he brings to clients the deep and uncommon expertise he has acquired over his long association with both sides of the insurance industry.
